Are these some of the traits you would look for in choosing a plant for your garden?
- Well rounded in character and self-disciplined
- Not greedy or overindulgent
- Smells and feels good
- Hardy- able to withstand extreme conditions
- Attractive features throughout the seasons
When choosing plants for my own garden or someone else’s often these attributes are on the back-burner of my mind. Regularly clients will ask for a low maintenance garden. Many plants however are just the opposite: thirsty (water guzzlers), hungry (for fertilizers) or they require long term medication (fungicides, insecticides) just to keep them alive!
Whether choosing a feature plant or one to compliment an existing planting these traits may help you find your ideal garden companion.
